Renumbering Utility for Items
Allows user to change an Item's number. If the new number already exists, it will merge the two items together.
Problem... When you have the same item listed in inventory under multiple item numbers it virtually destroys the users' ability to plan materials and structure BOMs. They'll look up a part and perhaps see no quantity on hand - not knowing that there are 100's on hand under a different part number. So they will then order in more unnecessarily - costing the business money, handling time and stocking space. Order entry staff trying to service a customer will look for a part and seeing the first listing, assume an out-of-stock situation. They'll then quote the customer a lead time based on having to make the part, whereas they could have shipped it that day if they had seen the quantity on hand listed under the second number! SyteLine provides NO facility to merge these two parts together. In fact, in SyteLine you would have to delete one of the two - a process which takes extensive preliminary work and virtually destroys the history and audit trail for the part.
Solution... The Renumbering Utility for Items allows the user to take a specific inventory item and either change the item number to a new number, or merge that item into an existing item. All related data is moved and merged as well. This utility can also simplify the deletion of old, obsolete inventory. By first merging all obsolete inventory items into a single item number, the process of deleting the records associated with just that item number becomes much simpler. For the first time, inventory records can be cleaned up and simplified.
